A baby monitor is rarely used by just one person. One parent may hand over to the other, both may want to check in at the same time, or a caregiver may use a separate phone. Until now, Timmy had to handle those everyday situations one after another. Timmy 3.0 turns them into one clear, shared flow.
The update connects up to two parent phones to the same phone in the nursery at once. It also remembers several trusted connections, keeps the chosen camera perspective consistent and lets live video continue in Picture in Picture on supported iPhones and Android devices. The pairing and encryption model remains unchanged, while live media continues to use encrypted WebRTC.

Two parents can stay connected at the same time
The baby device can now serve two active parent connections. Both parents receive the same live audio and video and have equal controls: either can turn the camera on or off, choose a camera view, use the Flashlight control, start a soothing sound or use push-to-talk. There is deliberately no primary phone and no restricted second phone.
Under the surface, the two connections remain separate. Each parent phone has its own WebRTC link, recovery path and video quality, while the baby device captures its camera and microphone only once. Recovery is isolated per parent, so a brief interruption on one connection does not force the other, healthy connection to be rebuilt or interrupted.
Two active connections are also the clear capacity limit. Once both places are occupied, the baby device does not accept a third request and does not maintain a waiting list. After one place becomes free, another parent phone can select Parent mode again. This keeps the active participants explicit and predictable.
Known devices no longer need to be paired every time
In Manage connections, you can store, name and remove up to eight pairings. The phone in the nursery can therefore remain known to both parents’ phones, a tablet and a grandparent’s device without replacing an existing pairing each time.
One saved entry is marked as the Preferred connection. When you actively start a new Baby or Parent session on that phone, Timmy uses this connection. In selection mode, however, Timmy listens for incoming requests from every saved connection. Being preferred does not block the others; it simply determines which connection Timmy uses when you actively start a session.
New devices still join through the same verified pairing flow: short code, in-app QR scan, the system camera, an app or universal link, a Play installation link or the iOS App Clip. Timmy saves the new pairing only after the security check. None of these entry points creates a separate or weaker connection path.
The camera view stays consistent
Many modern phones have several cameras facing the same direction. The operating system can move between an ultra-wide, main or telephoto lens, which used to make the view appear to jump after a quality change or camera restart.
Timmy 3.0 presents the available perspectives on the parent phone as familiar zoom levels such as 0.5×, 1× or 2×. The exact choices depend on the hardware in the phone used as the baby device. Timmy remembers your selection and reapplies it after a video-quality change, a reconnection or a camera restart.
SD, HD and Max now consistently use a 16:9 video frame, too. Changing quality no longer changes the aspect ratio at the same time. Even when the phone stands upright, the camera image remains in the familiar landscape format and is fitted into the available space without distortion or a different crop for every quality level.
Picture in Picture keeps the nursery in view
On supported devices, the parent phone can place live video in a small system window. The picture stays visible while you answer a message, check your calendar or use another app. The Picture in Picture when leaving the app option can appear in Parent settings even before a session is connected or live video is ready. Automatic entry is separate: it requires the option to be enabled, the Parent screen to be active, a connected session, active camera video, a first received frame and a native video source.
The compact window intentionally shows video only. Audio and connection recovery continue, while controls remain inside Timmy. If the nursery camera is off or the connection is being restored, Picture in Picture shows black rather than freezing an outdated frame. The system restore control returns to the full parent screen; deliberately closing the PiP window ends monitoring.
The protection around the connection does not change
Supporting more devices does not mean collecting audio or video from the nursery in an account or cloud recording service. Every new pairing still creates fresh cryptographic keys and asks you to compare the same two-digit security number on both phones. The pairing key remains on the devices; the backend receives only a derived identifier for routing.
Technical connection setup data is encrypted as well, and audio and video travel over encrypted WebRTC. When a direct route is unavailable, a relay can forward the encrypted packets without decrypting their media content. Timmy still creates no cloud recordings and still requires no personal account.
Clear boundaries instead of hidden automation
- No more than two parents at once: A third phone is not queued and must try Parent mode again after a place becomes free.
- One shared camera feed: Both parents see the same camera, but each can choose a different receiving quality.
- Picture in Picture belongs to Parent mode: Baby mode, the Web Companion and the App Clip do not open a PiP window.
- Hardware support still matters: Camera perspectives and Picture in Picture appear only when the phone and operating system support them.
These boundaries are part of the design. They keep monitoring predictable and prevent a request from another saved device from waiting silently in the background, or a session from continuing unnoticed after its window is no longer visible.
Frequently asked questions about Timmy 3.0
Can three parent phones connect at the same time?
No. The baby device supports two simultaneous parent connections. A third phone must select Parent mode again after one of those connections has ended.
Do both parent phones need Premium?
The second parent phone joining at the same time must have its own paid, active Timmy Premium entitlement on that exact phone. Premium on the baby device does not waive this requirement. A trial or Premium merely shared or granted through another device does not count for the additional place. After purchasing on the second parent phone, select Parent mode again.
Does Timmy respond only to the preferred connection?
No. The preferred connection is used when you actively start Baby or Parent mode. In selection mode, Timmy accepts requests through all saved connections.
Which devices support Picture in Picture?
Timmy uses the operating system’s Picture in Picture feature. It is intended for supported Android devices running Android 8 or later and supported iPhones running iOS 15 or later. The option can appear in Parent settings before a session is connected or video is ready. Automatic Picture in Picture starts only when the option is enabled, the Parent screen is active, the session is connected, camera video is active, a first frame has arrived and Timmy has a native video source.

These features may look separate at first, but they solve one practical problem together: monitoring should be easy to hand over, share and keep in sight without setting everything up again.
